5 out of 5 stars An indispensable guide to MOSS   February 2, 2008

No matter what your technical skills or experience with SharePoint technologies this book has something for you. Written by Bill English, the foremost expert on SharePoint there is, it provides a straight forward and practical guide to deploying, maintaining, tuning and migrating Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007. The approach taken is a practical guide, with details of potential sticking points.
The included CD includes a pdf version of the book so it is always available when you need it.

1 out of 5 stars IMHO, this really isn't for admins   October 11, 2007

Contrary to most of the reviews here this book is NOT for administrators. If you need to administer a product you need a "how to" guide - you think to yourself, "I need to do . I'll look it up in the manual". What happens with this book is you find a description of what the product can do not how to accomplish the task.

Generally it is very wordy and nowhere near concise enough to get on and do the job at hand in the workplace where time is limited.

As a marketing source source and product description, fine - 3.5 stars. For administrators just the one I'm afraid.

5 out of 5 stars Just for admins   September 3, 2007

This book's title is 100% correct. It's the right book for admins, but it doesn't cover the other areas of MOSS like using it and programming. This shouldn't be your first book to learn MOSS if you have no experience from the previous version. But it's THE manual for every MOSS admin.

5 out of 5 stars Well worth buying   August 31, 2007

I am looking at implementing Sharepoint; with no previous experience, I needed something that would help me understand the product, and show me the way to install and manage it as an administrator. This book does exactly that!

It is broken down into logical sections that make it easy to dip in and out as required. The text is well written and reasonably easy to follow; although there are a few sections where new users may need to cover the topics more than once.

If you are looking to install ths product, I would strongly suggest that you consider buying this book; I think that you will find it well worth the money.

5 out of 5 stars Every MOSS worker - Expert User, Administrator or Architect - should have this to hand   April 24, 2007

I've worked with SharePoint for a long time now and I've found this book - like its predecessor, the 2003 version - to be an invaluable aid. The book is further enhanced by the included CD, containing a searchable (PDF) electronic version of the book - so handy when needs must. My work means I am often on-site with clients, often lacking a 'net connection to check facts, figures and scenarios, and here this book shines as an invaluable reference. The Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 platform is of such breadth and depth now that I will happily admit to not keeping it all in my head at the same time - why should I when I've references like this on which I can call? One client recently asked me how one becomes expert in SharePoint; without thinking, I replied, "Pain". This book will help avert and alleviate some of that pain. I have recommended this book to my clients and I'd wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone getting to grips with MOSS.
