5 out of 5 stars A book to make you feel instantly feminine and glamourous!   February 10, 2001

A wonderful companion to Kathy Phillips' Book of Blondes which I gave to my hair colourist last Christmas. This is a superb guidebook for any woman with practical tips and tricks of the trade from some of my favourite beauty writers. The sections on choosing a qualified physician and cosmetic dermatology and surgery are sensible and very up-to-date. I especially enjoyed reading about The Rules of Successful Skincare - Knowledge, Realism, Holism, and Patience. It sets the tone that 'miracle' and 'cream' is often not a unified concept. The 'New Skincare Essentials' chart makes easy work out of understanding all of the latest technologies, what they do, and what strengths to look for on the label. As a consummate beauty junkie, I would recommend it to everyone.

5 out of 5 stars A book that will make you feel good about yourself!   January 29, 2001

"Beauty is no longer considered to be a gift of the chosen few..."

As soon as you open this book the blend of mature writing mixed with with the good old down-to-earth idea that beauty comes from within, is apparent.

The ultimate beauty bible for the new millennium, "Vogue Beauty" is a superb publication cram-packed full of fascinating inside information, handy beauty tips and an array of beautiful images.

This book is a delight to read.

In the stylish manner that you would expect from a book by "Vogue", this will appeal not only to the die-hard fashion consumer but also those who simply wish to expand on their knowledge of the beauty industry.

The book begins by briefly charting fashion from the 1950s to present, and taking an exclusive peek into future innovations. It then takes a look at 'The Body'. This section deals with the usual healthy eating and excerise ideas but adds some welcome information on stress relief and 'holistic therapies'. The detail this book goes into is amazing. Instead of just explaining that exercise is good for you, like most other beauty books, "Vogue Beauty" goes out of its way to give many examples of what you could do to get involved in exercise, as if it's actually grabbing you and telling you to get off your back-side and do something!!

This book is a fantastic motivator!!

"Vogue Beauty" combines biological facts (such as in the 'Skincare' section) with down-to-earth advice in order to help you to get the most out of what you have got, which seems to be the basis of the book. The only fault i would put against this book is that some of the scientific jargon is a little complex and therefore confusing, but apart from that it is a fantastic book.

The highlights of this book for me were the 'Hair' and 'Make up' sections and the surprising addition of the section on 'Scent', which defines the world of perfumery.

"Vogue Beauty" is absolutely fantastic and a must for those who want to look, and feel, their best. It deals with almost every aspect of the beauty industry.

A stylish and informative read.
