Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars the best book on new graphic design   May 23, 2002

This is the best selection of Graphic Design around today. It has loads of fantastic ideas in it - perfect if you're looking for inspiration. Emily King's text is the clearest, most intelligent writing on Graphic Design around. She has a coherent thesis about systems design and unlike most grapics writing has the language, knowledge and intelligence to argue it through. I wanted to read more.

3 out of 5 stars Great inspiration but too intellectual.   February 19, 2002

The book is a designer's reference for up to date ideas and inspiration. It is seperated into three parts. Starting with 'Code' which is based on designs around technology. 'Generic' then uses the everyday and ordinary. Finally 'Disjunction' tries to provoke, challenge and question.

There are some very interesting eye opening imagery and I would buy the book simply for those. However the reading is rather like a fine artist giving obscure reasons for their work. It tends to flow over your head!

If you understand that cities could be portrayed as multifaceted entities... Then you catch my drift???
