Superb monitor May 22, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
After buying a new PC and discovering the built in graphics card wouldn't work with my existing monitor I decided to buy a new one. My previous monitor was a 1,200 20" IBM Thinkvision which was the dogs dangly bits. My budget was limited to 200 after spending so much on the pc so I wasn't expecting much from this monitor. Boy was I wrong! This monitor is superb. The images are bright and crisp and the colours vibrant. Hook it up to a DVI card and things gets even better!
I will admit it does feel a bit light and plasticky next to the IBM which is built like a tank (and weighs as much), but you don't sit there handling the thing all day, you look at it, and this one looks good! Having to put most of your body weight on it to get it to `dock' with the stand is also a bit strange, but at the end of the day it's the overall look and picture quality that counts and it just can't be beaten at this price.
This one has already migrated from my office to my bedroom, the 2ms refresh rate and 3000:1 contrast ratio makes watching TV and films a joy.
Great! May 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Superb monitor... don't be put off by the 'wobble' rumours, you just need to make sure the stand is correctly affixed. Brilliant picture, took me a while to set up a brightness setting I was happy with though, in the end the Samsung software annoyed me but Windows Vista has colour config programmes so it's fine.
Better than having two monitors! May 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having had a Hitachi 17" LCD for a few years, when I first saw this monitor I thought it rather 'over-sized'. However, when I actually replaced my old monitor with the lighter and thinner Samsung I was rather pleased. I use this with a KVM with Mac OS X as well as a dual-boot XP/OpenSuse 10.3 Linux fielding a Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT graphics card. On all three platforms it was simply plug'n'play with minor tweaks to set the correct resolution. I don't play many games but watch DVDs and use the Monitor for viewing documents, email, internet and other peripheral computing activities; I am very pleased with it's performance. No dead pixels whatsoever. As has been reported elsewhere fitting the base is a bit of a conundrum; Persevere and be a bit more forceful than you want to be and it does eventually slot into place. This monitor comes with VGA and DVI-D cables as well as some software which I have not bothered installing. Picture quality is excellent using the DVI cable.
Gamers delight! May 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Into FPS games? Buy it now. It's 2msec response really is THAT good. Playing Quake Wars at 1680x1050 is fantastic.
As with any monitor you should spend time calibrating it, it really does shine after 30 minutes playing around with the settings.
Tip: Get yourself a monitor stand and place it so that the top of the screen is level with your eyes. With an LCD it can make a big difference, sadly most people don't know how to sit in front of a monitor and manufacturers still fail to highlight this issue.
The SM2232BW is currently on PC Pro magazines "A List" and deserves to be, gamers will love it.
Cheaply Made Monitor April 4, 2008 3 out of 17 found this review helpful
Many of you will buy this monitor because on paper its the best 22 inch monitor out there and Samsung is currently dominating the HD market BUT DONT!!!
This monitor is a terrible product the unit wobbles all over the places at the slightest tremer which doesn't help the poorly made power connection which is easily disconnected from the power lead. It will even make a very unhealthy spark noise occasionally. Another issue is the screen which while great when it works had a dead pixel in only a few months of use . When paying this much money for a monitor you expect it to swivel and tilt yet this product does neither.
Another point to make is if you running Xbox360 through the vga it will look terrible because it will only run at 1200 by 1024 stretched on too a 22 inch monitor not pretty. Also the colours are dull and lifeless. Not only does the power lead disconnect easily so does anything in the VGA port. A lot of these problems could have been fixed if they'd just added some kind of cable management like some Dell monitors.
Overall I love having a 22inch monitor it's just a shame I didn't get a good one, lesson learned. Make sure you don't make the same mistake I did. Make sure your monitor has a good stand lots of connectivity and a good quality screen. Make sure they give you a warranty too. Also if your worried about dead pixels which you should be there annoying as hell some dell monitors have a no dead pixels policy.
Well I'm off to send my monitor off for repair and try and get some more money :( for a dell monitor most likely sigh...
